The award-winning Northwest Missouri State University Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship focuses on accelerating start-up growth. Henderson Engineers designed building systems for a new CIE lab with two wings. An academic wing to house the school’s growing nano-science program, with features such as:
Genetics, nano-science and molecular labs
Tissue cultures
An instrument room
Biology and chemistry faculty research labs
Class 10,000 clean room for teaching, research and development
We designed building systems for a second incubation wing with wet labs and offices for biotech and nanotech entrepreneurs.
Henderson also incorporated a central chiller plant, new VAV air handlers, and VAV laboratory exhaust fans for fume hoods and general exhaust. The large number of fume hoods needed in the nano labs posed a particular challenge for HVAC distribution.
Our team added a water treatment system for laboratory grade purified water, and an electric boiler for reheating. We also made it easier to distribute compressed air, natural gas, and purified water throughout the new lab.
One of Henderson’s guiding principles is to mix rules with imagination. The CIE has a similar feel giving entrepreneurs access to state-of-the-art tools and academic experts so they can refine their big ideas and speed growth.
